Day 74 – Retouching Butterfly Coin

Felt that I didn’t cut deep enough on the wings of my butterfly; there are tiny patches of white where the black paint doesn’t cover. This afternoon, I retouched the wings again, this time, making sure that I’ve made deep and even cuts across the existing cuts, throughout the wings. I have also made it […]

Day 73 – Another Beetle Coin

Engraved another beetle on a 500 Korean Won coin. Not too bad. I could have done the shading a bit better. I’ll be returning to work next Monday (22nd June), thus ending my “Circuit Breaking Stay Home” period. It’s been a crazy 70 odd days, but I feel I’ve managed to make use of this […]

Day 66 – Butterfly Coin

Spent a ridiculous amount of time shading in the black area on the wings of the butterfly. Once I’m done, I applied some black paint to further darken the outlines. Didn’t really do much else; making hundreds of micro cuts side by side took up all my time.

Day 65 – Blacken Engravings

My small can of black paint arrived today. Immediately, I tried to blacken my previous engraving and just as advertised, the engraving now shows up a lot clearer. Only issue now is I need to find a way to blacken my engraving without leaving myself with painted fingers. It’s not easy to remove the paint […]

Day 45 – Wave

So I have finished the Flora coin. The background can be more level and balanced. Even with the stippling, it is obvious that the background isn’t flat. For bigger background removal job like this, I will try to remove with a bur next time. Wave Coin Next, I worked on and finished another coin today. […]

Day 44 – Start of Another Coin

Started working on another coin today. The design was inspired by this illustration of some plant I found online. Don’t really know what plant was it though. Anyway, same thing, I drew it out and transferred the design onto the coin. Cutting the outline was not too much of a problem. The problem is that […]

Day 41 – Computer Aided Designing

02:15 PM Been working on the computer for a good part of the afternoon. I was designing sharpening templates to be sent out for cutting by an online company specialising in acrylic. The geometry is based on the ones suggested by the video tutorial I bought last night. I have already emailed the company the […]

Day 40 – Pointillism

Did a bit of “Bulino Engraving” today. Using a picture taken by Constant Companion RR of her two cats, I think I did a rather decent job. While the engraving doesn’t show up dark if you look at it directly from the front, I supposed I can apply some black ink to really show the dots. […]

Day 39 – A Box of Springs.

Chicken Coin Completed Done with the chicken coin. My shading skill needs a lot more work. Did the stippled background for this because stippling is a new thing for me, and it makes the rooster pops. A Box of Springs! My box of springs came in this afternoon. Nice. Since it is a box of […]

Day 38 – Chicken Coin.

The sharpening holder for 2mm round graver works after I have shorten the back of the tube. Only bad thing about using the holder with round gravers is that it can be hard to align the sides consistently. Not impossible though, I will just have to work with it. Chicken Coin Started my work on […]
