Day 69 – Shading and DIY Coin Clamp

The shading is 50% done. While taking a break from shading, I made these “vise accessory” to hold coins of various size on the vise. Now while I’m taking a break from making those “vise accessory”, I made this post.

Day 68 -A Lot of Shading!

Finished with the outline of the practice design I’ve been working on since yesterday. Next, I started doing the shading. At the moment of this post, I’ve completed shading 1/4 of the entire thing. PHEW. Been doing a lot of online shopping during this quarantine period at home; today was on exception. I have ordered […]

Day 67 – Asymmetrical Floral Design

So I’ve been practicing on this design I found online. Made some adjustments to better fit my requirement. Quite an intricate and complex design; excellent practice material. At the moment (0737 PM), I’m about 2/3 done. I’ve grind away the excess metal at the tip of my square graver. That makes it easier to see […]

Day 66 – Butterfly Coin

Spent a ridiculous amount of time shading in the black area on the wings of the butterfly. Once I’m done, I applied some black paint to further darken the outlines. Didn’t really do much else; making hundreds of micro cuts side by side took up all my time.

I have finished shading the design I’ve been working on since yesterday. I feel like my cuts are getting lighter and more delicate. Not sure if this is […]

Day 63 – New Gravers!

My order of 2 mm by 200 mm High Speed Steel rods arrived this afternoon. Nice. Each piece can get me 4 gravers since my ideal length of graver is 50 mm. I will probably cut them down to size tomorrow. For their geometry, I will need to think long and hard for the ones […]

Day 62 – Black Paint

Finished my first “major” piece. The design is something I’ve drawn on my phone, then printed out on the printer and transferred onto the metal with the homemade “transfer solution”. Did a lot of fine shading under the microscope. With the naked eye, some of the shadings are a little too fine to be seen […]

Day 61 – Transfer Upgrade

0315 PM Yes! Everything is falling into place. The toner and printer works. The homemade “transfer solution” works (25% Dammar Varnish, 75% Lighter Fluid). The trick is to print on transparency film and stopping the film from reaching the heating element of the printer, by jerking open the front cover of the printer. My 2nd […]

Day 60 – No Engraving Today

Have to edit some pictures for the company today. which means I had no time to engrave anything. However, the toner came in this afternoon and I’ve tested the printer and it works. Nice. Let’s try and get some really intricate designs out now.
